RECYCL'art

Whether it is sports goods used by famous athletes or old equipment that reminds us of our sporting past, RECYCL’art breathes new life and gives new value to old sporting goods. It teaches us to be creative in making the most of the Earth’s natural resources and shows us that we can still find value in all things.
RECYCL’art combines sports, environment and art to send a message that we should not casually discard things, but take care of them and understand their inherent value. The RECYCL’art Exhibition stresses the importance of ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’.
Originally RECYCL’art was featured at international events, such as the Global Forum for Sports and Environment, held in Tokyo in 2001 and 2003, which featured art pieces made my professional artists, using sports equipment donated by pro-athletes. These pieces are still featured in exhibitions, and professionals still continue to contribute, but the focus of the program has now shifted to include workshops for young people, who get a ‘hands-on’ chance to apply their creativity and make their own art pieces, while understanding the environmental concept behind the initiative.
Old or unused sports gear for the workshops has been collected through donations from sports clubs and organizations, as well as ‘sports goods recycle boxes’, which have been installed at sports events, schools and Nike stores in Japan.
